How to Make Space For What Matters Most in Life
32 days.
That’s how many days are left in 2022 and I’m feeling like it’s time to make space - mental and physical - for what matters most in the new year.
As we try to manage shopping, decorating, and socializing expectations of this season, I hope we’re also considering what to keep and what to let go of.
In anticipation of our MAKE SPACE decluttering & organizing workshop, I’ve been thinking about the implications of making space in our lives.
How do we make space and set ourselves up for organizing success in 2023?
The good news? There’s a proven process - The T.U.D.O.S. Technique: Thinking, Uncovering, Deciding, Organizing & Sustaining - that is practical and FUN if set it up well.
All year fellow creatrix Erica Ross and I have been offering MAKE SPACE workshops that offer a welcoming online space to do the decluttering work with my expertise and encouragement and DJ Erica’s upbeat music.
Through MAKE SPACE, we create an atmosphere that encourages letting go and opening up to possibilities.
According to Erica, “making space is a loving act of creating new/enough/more space to call in what I desire in my life. It's a clearing. An opening. A place of beauty and healing.”
Whether you make space by clearing clothes from your closet, re-arranging your art supplies, sorting your paperwork, categorizing your files, or clearing surfaces of clutter, there is a spaciousness that reveals itself when you actively choose to make space.
When I think about “making space”, I immediately envision lightness, buoyancy, and clarity – all stemming from letting go of what’s no longer needed. It’s a release of belongings, ideas, spaces that no longer serve you, and an invitation to make space for new opportunities, connections, and creativity to emerge.
Past participants have described “Making Space” workshops as an opportunity to:
“Reflect on my life and my priorities in a practical way”
“Take stock of what I own – it’s been so long I forget, and it just ends up as clutter
“Choose what to include in my life and what to let go of so I can do more of what I love”
“Start! I want to declutter but it’s been so overwhelming to start. Doing it with others really helps.”
“Step into a new version of myself by getting rid of stuff that no longer serves me”
Ultimately, making space is about letting go of:
Expectations
Fear
Limiting Beliefs
Past identities
Actual belongings!
To enhance our:
Creativity
Connections
Collaborations
Community
Calm
What would it feel like to make space for new energy, ideas, and actions to emerge in 2023?
