OUR FLAG, OUR PRIDE – Celebrating 50 Years

What an amazing experience to be part of the human flag to commemorate the 50th birthday of our Canadian Flag!

Held at Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens) at ice level, hundreds of us dressed in red looked up high at the ceiling while renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky captured the shot (above).

So many great events coming up and I’m so honoured to be part of them – as a speaker, presenter, fan, panel guest and all around creative innovator. 4-time Olympic gold medalist Hayley Wickenheiser holds a copy of Kika the Upside Down Girl, which she graciously endorsed on the back cover – I hold her gold medal from Sochi. Very Inspiring!!

It is indeed exciting times for Jessica, Kika the Upside Down Girl and the FL!P movement!  Spring has been full of wonderful opportunities to engage with students, athletes, coaches, publishing & literary professionals, festival guests and happy Kika the Upside Down readers.

As we look ahead, I am thrilled to be engaging in so many amazing events that will undoubtedly build our community of confident, creative and fliptastic fans!

Making Waves in Education – Educators Unite @ Toronto Un-Conference

Who wouldn’t be totally intrigued by an invitation to speak at the Make Waves education innovation catalyst event? Not this educator! I signed up to be one of 8 speakers at the Islands of Excellence un-conference, an event designed to bring together thought leaders, communities and organizations who are changing the world, igniting new connections and inspiring agile strategies….and making waves.

Hosted at The Academy, an innovative YMCA inspired and supported secondary school serving the needs of students with diverse learning styles, the kickoff Pecha Kucha event showcased the unique ideas of educators like myself involved in a variety of innovative initiatives. Continue reading

Athletes CAN Inspire Action & Fun @ Bill Crothers Elite Sport School

Talk about athletes as thought leaders and inspirational educators!  At the recent KidsCAN event at Bill Crothers Secondary School, over 50 Olympians and Paralympians met with more than 700 students to share a variety of sports and fun activities as well as their messages about the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
